Leadership

Seeding the Ground

Investing in Our Future

The decisions that today’s tribal leaders make will impact Native American traditions and lifestyles for years to come.  As tribes confront new opportunities and challenges it is vital that we enlist our best and brightest for the benefit of our communities.  Here at Atsaya we are working to build programs that will support tomorrow’s leaders, today.

Youth Leaders = Action

Our most valuable resource as native people always has been and remains to be, our young people.  Atsaya is working with experts in the field of network theory to pilot the Seed to Lead (S2L) Program. Seed to Lead will bring young native leaders together in an Openspace format for a total of three retreats. The Openspace meeting method was developed to build sustainable networks of people who are capable of analyzing problems and devising action plans to address those problems. By providing youth the tools, space and resources they need, we can begin to address the most pressing issues affecting tribal communities.

The goals of the S2L retreats are to identify the next wave of tribal leadership, build sustainable networks between leaders from different tribal nations and begin to address old problems with new solutions.  In the S2L retreats the participants will analyze issues facing tribes and be given tools such as further training and microgrants to begin to effect change in their own communities.  In addition, participants in the S2L program will gain skills in public speaking, strategic planning and implementing campaigns through their action plans.

Seeding the Ground

By investing in the next generation of native leadership we can ensure that our communities remain vibrant and strong. Through Seed to Lead, Atsaya is working to support those leaders who will fight for Indian Country now and in the future.  Our goal is to nurture these ‘seeds of change’ for the benefit of all tribal nations.
